NameTrends.U.S. Baby Name Data

عن

NameTrends publishes the official U.S. baby name statistics released by the Social Security Administration (SSA), covering 1880 to the latest annual release. The SSA tabulates names from Social Security card applications — a near-complete census of U.S. births since the 1960s — and publishes the data as a U.S. government work (public domain). How we process the data: we download the official bulk files (names.zip and namesbystate.zip) once per year, drop records that fail basic validation, and compute derived statistics ourselves — lifetime totals, peak year and rank, years on the list, 10-year trend, and the rankings on this site. Rankings such as 'fastest rising' or 'evergreen' are our own plain calculations over the raw counts, not editorial opinions, and the exact rules are described in our guides. What the data does not include: the SSA suppresses any name given to fewer than 5 babies in a year (or in a state), strips hyphens, spaces and accents from names, and counts each spelling separately. The data reflects card applications, not birth certificates, and lags the calendar year by about a year. NameTrends does not provide name meanings, numerology or astrology — we publish only verifiable popularity statistics and explain how to read them.
